Northallerton School & Sixth Form College

Role:                       Higher Level Teaching Assistant

Hours:                    37hpw, Term Time only (including training days – 39 weeks per year)

Salary:                    Grade F points 8-13, £20,852 – £23,023 p.a (actual salary £17,716 – £19,560 p.a.)

Contract:               Permanent

Start date:            Required from 1st September 2022

We are seeking to appoint a team of creative, dynamic and enthusiastic Higher Level Teaching Assistants.  Following on from our successful move to a new site in September 2021 and our recent Ofsted Inspection in January 2022, where our school was judged ‘Good’ on all aspects, we are seeking to expand and develop our support and SEND provision.

We are looking for positive, caring individuals who are keen to support learners.  You will complement teachers’ delivery of the national curriculum and contribute to the development of other support staff, pupils, school policies and strategies.  You will be expected to work both independently and collaboratively with teaching staff in the whole planning cycle and the management/preparation of resources. Also to deliver learning to individuals, small groups and whole classes as and when required within agreed systems of supervision.  For a full list of duties please refer to the job description in the application pack on our website.

  • The Higher Level Teaching Assistant qualification or QTS
  • Level 2 qualification in both English/literacy and maths/numeracy (GCSE grades A-C or grade 4 or higher in the new GCSE)
  • Relevant knowledge and experience of pupils with SEND
  • Understanding of the Safeguarding principles and Child Protection procedures
  • Experience of managing a range of approaches to behaviour, including managing behaviours that challenge.

We welcome applications from highly motivated individuals who will work effectively as part of our excellent team and contribute to wider school life, building positive relationships with all members of our community. We are looking for applicants who are dedicated to making a difference to children’s lives and to ensure every child has the opportunities they deserve and can be the best they can be.

If you are interested in this post but currently do not hold the necessary qualifications, the school may be able to assist with training. If this is the case, there may be the opportunity to be employed in the role of a General Teaching Assistant (GTA) until the successful completion of the HLTA training course – please be aware that this is paid at a different salary rate to that of a HLTA – for further details please contact Louise Bramley, PA to the Headteacher at lbramley@arete.uk, who will provide you with the appropriate job description and salary details for a GTA.

Closing date: 29th July 2022
