Ms J. Hooton
I enjoyed a long career as a teacher and senior leader in 5 secondary schools mostly in the Leeds area, largely leading in schools facing challenging circumstances including ‘Special Measures’. Whilst in a senior leadership role, I was approached by the C.C.D.U at The University of Leeds to be strategic director for the Leadership Programme for Serving Headteachers and for the Yorkshire and Humber Regional Assessment Centre for the National Professional Qualification for Headship, subsequently appointed as executive director and board member.
I became Director of the North Stockton Education Action Zone, a government initiative to support schools in disadvantaged areas. This appointment created very many opportunities to work creatively and often in a leading edge way with the schools to bring about rapid improvements in students’ learning.
I have chaired the Interim Executive Board of three ‘Special Measures’ secondary schools and continue to be actively engaged as a leadership consultant by many schools.
